The 2024 Formula One opener was action packed with intense racing, problems in different departments in teams, and strategy in the pits. A season opener to remember after a dominant Max Verstappen claimed the first win of the 2024 campaign.

Max Verstappen had scored the pole for the race weekend over RedBull teammate Sergio Perez.

The race went green under the lights in Bahrain and Max Verstappen stepped on the gas and never looked back. The title chase was underway and Max was unstoppable once again starting the 2024 season. Sergio Perez had some troubles especially with radio and being able to hear his team clearly. This caused distress in the RedBull pit area where the team struggled to communicate as Perez was telling his team to speak louder.

Riccardo and Hamilton had a hard time keeping their cars in bounds. Several corners of the track, both drivers drove in deep, missing the apex and eventually missing the exit of the corner. Warnings were sent, but the issues kept happening. Lewis Hamilton had a dreadful night with issues in the power unit in the back of the Mercedes car.

Most Mercedes power units had trouble in the late 2024 Bahrain Grand Prix. Both Mercedes drivers; Hamilton, Russell struggled with the power unit and being able to run the car like they needed to. Russell bounced to a fifth place finish after suffering the faulty unit all night. However, the McLaren cars did have the issue, whilst still having the Mercedes developed power unit in the back of their cars as well. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were fairly consistent in Bahrain.

The two McLarens, while lacking the speed of the RedBull and Ferrari’s came within fighting distance of the Mercedes as well. Both drivers earned there finishes after a hard fought battle on the racetrack.

Speaking of the Ferrari’s, both drivers, Sainz and Leclerc, battled all night long. One would capture the other on a long run or off of pits and then the battle was on. Seeming like no one was in their class, while they weren’t in the RedBull speed range either, the two Ferrari’s were able to duke it out and finished in a respectable 3rd and fourth position to start the 2024 season.

A spectacular race ended in casual finishing order for the past few years of the sport. Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz stopping the podium hunt when he crossed the finish line in 3rd.
